Many young boys adopt the street as their home. Most of them have run away from abusive parents, unhappy homes, or have had to face severe hunger due to poverty. On the street, they are faced with the hard realities of life, forced to do odd jobs, beg, and eat leftover food. The phenomenon of street children is recognized as a social problem affecting major cities in most of the developing countries. The Bombay YMCA Juhu Youth Centre has provided its services to the ‘rootless and roofless’ young boys in Mumbai through its night shelter and daytime activities.
